Repair of the pillars of El Coloso building in Torrevieja.
This work consisted of the repair and refurbishment of the damaged pillars for the Community of Owners of the El Coloso building in the Alicante town of Torrevieja.
The structure
The building’s structure presented structural damage to its pillars in the form of cracks and fissures in the concrete, which suggested that the reinforcement of the reinforced concrete structure was affected.
During the works, any concrete in poor condition was knocked away, and loose and cracked parts were removed to expose the structural frame, so that corrosion of the reinforcements could be checked and corrected as necessary.
Frame
Once the frame was exposed, the existing corrosion was removed and subsequently a product was applied to repair it made from chemicals that neutralise the corrosion, and in turn bond the old and new materials. In certain cases, where the corrosion of the reinforcement had rendered it completely useless, or even broke it, it was necessary to repair it by replacing and reinforcing it with new reinforcements, which were welded to the existing ones, integrating them into the structure system.
Pillar Reconstruction
Once the frame was treated, the pillars were reconstructed to their original form, which consisted of reconstructing the final appearance of the pillars with special repair mortar. As can be seen in the photo report, the pillars are cylindrical, making the work more laborious, a high quality finish was sought which would return the pillars and other structural elements to their original state.
Planters
Finally, we proceeded to rebuild the planters and community elements to their original state.
