What type of industrial building do you need?

Within the field of industrial construction, there is a range of possibilities in the construction of buildings which must be considered if you intend to construct a new building. The basic things you must take into consideration are:

1. Analyse the type of soil that is going to support the new building. Depending on the type of land, which is determined through use of a geotechnical test, we can establish the optimal type of foundation for the construction of the building, which can be a number of different types:
   • Single footings with tied beams.
   • Foundation slab.
   • Pile caps with piloting on-site.
   • Pile caps with prefabricated piloting.
   • Etc.
2. Study of plot geometry. With this type of analysis it is necessary to consider the shape of the plot as well as its intended use in terms of its business activity, access of machinery, routes of use, etc.
3. Type of building structure. The construction of buildings can be divided into two types of structures, metal and concrete structures. There are some basic premises which determine the use of one system over another, however each building project is different and there are no set rules, so the two types of construction must be considered and sometimes even combined to complete construction. The basic features of the type of structure are:
   • METAL STRUCTURE: This type of structure is made with metal profiles, which can be laminated profiles, UPN, IPE, IPN, HEB, etc. These metal elements are placed in simple mode or joined together with clips, forming porches or lattice beams to cover the lights of the building. This type of structure is usually only raised for buildings with a maximum distance of 15 meters between pillars, given that constructing with a prefabricated concrete structure is more economical.
   • PREFABRICATED CONCRETE STRUCTURE: This other type of structure is one that is usually used during the construction of buildings with lights greater than 15 meters long. Also the distance between porches can be double that of metal buildings. With this type of structure the pillars are of greater size than the metallic ones and being a concrete structure, it has the advantage of not requiring fireproofing, a necessary task with a metal structure.
   • SLABS. In many buildings, nayas (covered areas) are built for offices or buildings with several floors. For these, everything depends on the geometry and loads that the slab needs to support, but the most common systems for forming slabs are:
     • Reinforced concrete slabs
     • Reticular or bidirectional forging
     • Forged one way
     • Forged with composite slabs (sheet metal)
     • Prefabricated alveolar plate slab
     • Etc.
4. Roof. This feature is analysed according to its type, since it can be a flat roof, one or more waters (type of incline), self-supporting, etc. Despite being the most commonly used in the area of industrial construction, the placement of a sandwich panel is particularly important as a certain percentage – usually 15% – must be designated as translucent panels to serve as skylights and thus allow natural light into the building.
5. Types of building facades. This last feature is the one that can make all the difference between one building and another. Since all the previous features are common to all industrial construction, the final surround of the building determines its aesthetic, distinguishing it from the other buildings.
