Various refurbishment works to adapt spaces to new requirements at Newton College in Alicante
In early 2026, Newton College in Alicante commissioned us to carry out refurbishment and adaptation works on several of the buildings that make up the educational complex. These works were prompted by a number of factors, including bringing the centre into line with accessibility regulations, adding an extra storey to one of its buildings, fire safety measures, and general maintenance of the facilities.
Among the most significant works we carried out, the following stand out:
Asbestos removal works on the roof of Newton College Elche
Upgrading the disabled access ramps to meet current regulations:
The access ramps to one of the buildings had excessively steep gradients that did not comply with basic accessibility regulations, making them difficult to use for those who required them. They therefore had to be demolished and rebuilt to a greater length, which enabled the desired new gradients to be achieved and ensured compliance with the relevant accessibility regulations, allowing them to be used correctly by all users.
Dismantling of the existing lift for the subsequent installation of a new one:
In one of the buildings, a vertical extension was carried out, consisting of the construction of an additional storey. This necessitated the installation of a new lift to provide access to this new storey, as the technical specifications of the existing lift did not allow for this.
In addition to installing the new lift, it was also necessary to add a further flight of stairs to provide access to the new level, on both the left and right sides of the building. These staircases were constructed using a metal framework.
Fire safety improvements:
To improve fire safety, a series of comprehensive improvements have been carried out, including the compartmentalisation of spaces, the optimisation of evacuation routes and the installation of emergency staircases.
General maintenance work:
Taking advantage of the work described above and the fact that the buildings were out of use whilst this work was being carried out, a series of general maintenance tasks were also carried out on the building and its facilities, such as painting walls, repairing damaged flooring, replacing joinery and installing a new generator set.
