26 Jan WORK ON THE GREAT PYRAMID OF CHEOPS STRUCTURE TERRA MITICA – BENIDORM
Work on the interior of the Great Pyramid of Cheops in “Terra Mítica” Theme Park Benidorm.
As part of its plans for investment and renovation, the management of theme park “Tierra Mítica”, decided to convert one of its most emblematic attractions, the Great Pyramid of Cheops, making it the centre of celebrations and conventions.
Terra Mítica is located in the levantine town of Benidorm in the province of Alicante. It is a very important tourist centre at a national and international level and this is why we wanted to expand its facilities as well as its range of activities.
The proposal was to change of function of the pyramid into an attraction for all uses, including an assembly hall.
The works that were contracted to our company Esclapés e Hijos S.L. involved demolishing the interior of the pyramid while leaving the outside intact, with no change to the outer appearance.
Interior reinforced concrete work
Next came the creation of an internal reinforced concrete structure, which included foundations, supports and floor slabs, forming new spaces at different heights, which would be home to future event rooms.
Complexity of the work
The intrinsic complexity of the work was carrying out all the structural works under a roof, without touching the decorative surround, which is an emblematic feature within the theme park.
This complexity required the use of special machinery and special construction procedures adapted for this particular environment.
It should be added that, as with any good theme park, Terra Mítica is of a seasonal nature. This seasonal nature brings with it very specific and limited deadlines for the job, and it was therefore necessary to take advantage of the park’s closing hours to carry out the work.
