REFURBISHMENT OF THE KRONOS BUILDING IN BENIDORM – ALICANTE<\/h2>\n

The Community of Owners of the Kronos building decided to refurbish the facade, and entrusted our company Esclap\u00e9s e Hijos S.L. to carry out the work.<\/p>\n

Reaching heights of 145 m, the Kronos is an emblematic 43-storey skyscraper in the levantine capital of tourism in Benidorm in the province of Alicante.<\/p>\n

Although it is a reasonably young building, approximately 10 years old, its facade is already in need of some improvements.<\/p>\n

There are a number of reasons why part of the building’s facade needs intervention in the form of refurbishment and repair. The building stands at a great height; it is exposed to the elements; it is protected only by its four faces, and was very possibly constructed from a poor choice of materials.<\/p>\n

What the building needed<\/h3>\n

One of the building’s facades – what could be described as the rear as it is south-facing – was designed mostly of facing bricks.<\/p>\n

These facing bricks had aged and deteriorated terribly and therefore is the main thing the job focused on.<\/p>\n

    What work was done?<\/h3>\n

    The first plan of action was to replace all bricks which were in poor condition and therefore posed a risk of falling off. The repairs were then completed in line with current regulations. The final finish is a single layer of mortar plaster with aggregate.<\/p>\n

    In addition to preventing possible landslides and falling rubble, this method also served to improve the energy efficiency of the building. Problems with humidity and energy loss through heating or air conditioning have been eradicated.<\/p>\n

    Given the uniqueness of the job, the building structure and the need for working at great heights, every precaution was taken with the job including very specific means of working with heights.<\/p>\n

    Monom\u00e1stil forklifts were used in certain areas and suspended scaffolding was used in areas which could not be reached by the Monom\u00e1stil forklifts.<\/p>\n

      The relevant support structures were put in place. Mobile suspended scaffolding and zipper or mast scaffolding were\u00a0 used to complete work on the facade.<\/p>\n

      Note the massive height of the building. Not suitable for anyone afraid of heights.<\/strong><\/p>\n
